Job summary

U.S. Electrical Testing in Richmond, VA, is seeking a field electrical technician responsible for installation, programming, testing and maintenance of protective relaying and metering systems used in transmission and distribution operations.

The role ensures reliability and safety by diagnosing, interpreting schematics, and coordinating repairs, with opportunities to mentor junior technicians and travel up to 50% as needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant electrical experience, or an associate’s degree with 4+ years of experience, or a bachelor’s degree with 3+ years.
• U.S. work authorization required.
• NETA/NICET certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Program, install, test and maintain protective relaying and metering systems in substation environments.
• Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams and substation drawings to locate faults.
• Operate test equipment in energized electrical rooms and substations following safety practices.
• Commission new relay and metering installations and coordinate with teams.
• Maintain test reports and support startup and commissioning activities.
