Job summary

Hut 8 is seeking a Protection & Controls Engineer to design and implement protection schemes for HV substations supporting our data-center campuses. You will develop relay settings, review diagrams, and ensure compliance with utility requirements.

You're joining Hut 8's team to own protection coordination, participate in commissioning and field testing, and collaborate with cross-functional engineers, NETA crews, and utilities. This role requires travel and hands-on problem solving.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of protection and controls engineering for HV substations, transmission, or utility interconnections (69kV-345kV).
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; PE license preferred.
• Strong experience with protective relaying and SEL platforms, including scheme design and settings development.
• Familiarity with ASPEN or CAPE for coordination and fault studies; knowledge of NERC PRC standards.
• Willing to travel 20-35% for factory tests and utility meetings.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review protection schemes and relay wiring for HV substations.
• Manage relay settings and version control; ensure accuracy against models.
• Support commissioning, field testing, and coordination with utilities.
• Mentor engineers on protection fundamentals.
• Create and maintain P&C standards and templates.
