Job summary

Firefly Aerospace in Austin, TX, is seeking a Propulsion Fluid Systems Engineer III to own the design, analysis, and qualification of spacecraft fluid systems for Blue Ghost and Elytra vehicles. You will lead CAD and analysis efforts, coordinate with fabrication, and support testing and launch operations.

The role demands deep fluid dynamics knowledge, hands-on hardware experience, and the ability to communicate clearly with cross-functional teams while driving reliability and manufacturability

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in fluid systems engineering and/or propulsion.
  • Thorough understanding of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.
  • Experience with tube or pipe design and layout.
  • Proficiency in modeling and analysis tools (e.g., CAD, FEA, CFD, MATLAB, Python).
  • Hands-on experience with hardware design, fabrication, and testing.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and technical writing skills.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication, integration, and quality control relevant to fluid components.
  • Knowledge of fluid components such as valves, regulators, pressure transducers, tubing, pressurized hardware, seals, and instrumentation and experience performing fluid systems sizing analysis with such components
  • Ability to rapidly develop solutions with partially defined or evolving requirements

Responsibilities

  • Own spacecraft fluid system requirements, design, and analysis from concept to flight.
  • Lead development of propulsion integration concepts that reduce complexity and boost reliability.
  • Serve as primary technical contact for all spacecraft fluid systems.
  • Prepare and present design review presentations to stakeholders.
  • Plan and execute development, qualification, and acceptance testing of flight hardware.
  • Improve manufacturability to increase production efficiency and reliability.
  • Identify system risks, perform trade studies, drive informed decisions.
  • Develop automation tools and data analysis for tests.
  • Support vehicle test and flight campaigns with console operations support.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to create processes and test procedures.
