Job summary

Apex is seeking a Senior Propulsion Engineer to lead the mechanical design of propulsion modules for scalable production. You will own module structure, mounting interfaces, and integration with Apex’s in-house thrusters, cathodes, flow controllers, and PPUs, shaping mechanical, thermal, and interface design from concept through flight-ready assembly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• 6+ years of mechanical/aerospace experience, or PhD with 3+ years.
• Strong command of structural design and analysis, including load paths, fasteners, and FEA.
• Experience designing hardware to survive launch and space environments.
• Experience installing and integrating spacecraft hardware into structural assemblies.
• Proficiency with CAD, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
• Experience working with manufacturing to transition designs into hardware.

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical design of propulsion modules, including module structures and mounting interfaces.
• Design module structures to meet launch loads, vibration, and thermal environments while conforming to ICDs.
• Define interfaces between propulsion components and the module, and module and spacecraft.
• Collaborate with in-house thruster, cathode, flow controller, and PPU teams to co-optimize designs.
• Perform structural analysis and hand calculations to verify strength and margins.
