Job summary

Ursa Major in Colorado seeks a seasoned mechanical design engineer to lead clean sheet propulsion hardware design from concept to production. You will own fluid and mechanical components, work with actuators and valves, and guide validation testing in a fast-paced defense setting.

You will derive requirements, write assembly instructions, and collaborate with other engineers to ensure successful integration into the engine system, while supporting iterative validation and redesigns.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
• 4+ years of mechanical design experience required.
• Experience with electromechanical and pneumatic actuators.
• Experience testing high-pressure fluid systems.
• Proficiency with CAD and drafting.
• Knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
• Able to lead large project scope and own tasks.

Responsibilities

• Clean sheet design of fluid & mechanical engine components (gimbals, actuators, valves, fluid systems).
• Modify existing components to improve performance and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with engineers on design, sizing, testing, and system development.
• Derive requirements from top level objectives and write assembly instructions.
• Assemble and test first article prototypes and document results.
• Coordinate integration of designs into engine systems with interfacing teams.
• Support validation and iterative redesign during engine development.
