Job summary

Boom Supersonic is seeking a Lead Propulsion Engineer, Mechanical Design, to shape the Symphony turbofan and power the Overture program. You will own mechanical design features, define tolerances, and create engine models as part of a small, high-performance turbomachinery team.

You will lead cross-disciplinary integration, drive fast development, and shape plans for assembly, with equity and competitive compensation for a mission-driven role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • 15+ years of professional experience.
  • Expert-level experience with CAD systems such as 3DX, Catia or NX.
  • Expertise in Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Familiarity with manufacturing techniques used in gas turbine production (single crystal casting, hollow core fan blades, additive manufacturing, etc.).
  • Leadership experience in designing turbomachinery modules and parts across program phases.
  • Ability to clearly communicate engine and aircraft system interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design features covering all mechanically dynamic phenomena in the engine, including loads, actuation, rotordynamics, failure scenarios, and more.
  • Develop technically sound design solutions to get symphony turbofan in the air as fast as possible.
  • Interpret, define and review tolerances and features on part drawings.
  • Create physical layouts, models, and arrangements of modules and whole engines.
  • Contribute to whole engine models that incorporate structures, rotors, ducts, services routing and thermal management.
  • Collaborate on specifications and design requirements for each module and lead cross discipline integration.
  • Act as the technical owner for all mechanical aspects of the engine, including fits, seals, mounts and joints.
  • Develop and implement plans for assembly and disassembly for development and production.
  • Participate in fabrication and testing as part of Symphony engine development.
