Job summary

NexPoint is seeking an experienced Lead Property & Casualty Insurance Underwriter (Property Focus) to join an affiliate startup P&C insurance company and scale its property underwriting platform in Dallas, Texas.

The role serves as the carrier-side underwriting lead, evaluating, pricing, and issuing property policies for affiliated real estate platforms and select clients, while collaborating with real estate and insurance leadership to align strategy and execution.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of Property & Casualty underwriting experience with emphasis on property.
• Background with a P&C carrier, Lloyd’s syndicate, MGA, or specialty insurer.
• Experience underwriting complex commercial or institutional-property risks.
• Strong understanding of pricing drivers and policy structures.

Responsibilities

• Lead property underwriting activities for the affiliated P&C insurer, including risk evaluation, selection, and pricing.
• Underwrite property risks across portfolios and third-party opportunities, considering construction, occupancy, geography, CAT exposure.
• Apply underwriting judgment to determine coverage terms, limits, deductibles, pricing, and policy structures.
• Act as underwriting lead for affiliated real estate platforms, providing carrier-side perspective during acquisitions and changes.
• Partner with brokers, reinsurance partners, and distribution counterparts to support underwriting decisions and programs.
• Review submissions to ensure alignment with appetite and objectives.
• Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines and authority levels as the platform scales.
• Monitor market conditions and emerging risks to inform approach.
• Support platform expansion through third-party underwriting opportunities.
