Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Legal Counsel specializing in property law to join our client’s team in East London. The role covers acquisitions, disposals, leasing, development, and disputes across a diverse property portfolio.

You will advise on legal aspects of commercial and residential transactions, development projects, and regulatory compliance, working with cross-functional teams to ensure strategic, compliant outcomes.

Qualifications

• Admitted attorney with a minimum of 6 years' experience focusing on property law.
• Deep knowledge of South African property law, including sectional titles act and rental housing act.
• Proven experience in commercial property transactions, development agreements, and commercial leases.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and provide commercially viable legal solutions.
• Strong understanding of environmental and planning law as it pertains to property development.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on all aspects of commercial and residential property transactions, including due diligence, drafting and negotiating sale and lease agreements.
• Manage property development projects from a legal perspective, including zoning, permits, and environmental regulations.
• Advise on property financing, sectional title schemes, and homeowners' association matters.
• Represent the company in property-related disputes, arbitrations, and litigation.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant property legislation, planning regulations, and environmental laws.
• Liaise with external legal advisors, government authorities, and other stakeholders involved in property transactions.
