Job summary

Prairie Management & Development, Inc. in Chicago, IL is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to manage accounting for a Midwest property portfolio, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with GAAP.

You will supervise Staff Property Accountants, prepare general ledgers and monthly reports in Yardi, coordinate with property managers, and assist with month-end close, HUD voucher submissions, and audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with sufficient coursework to be eligible to sit for the CPA exam.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Property Accountant required.
• Strong understanding of GAAP principles.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word.
• Experience with accounting software, preferably Yardi.
• Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
• Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical abilities.
• Ability to maintain the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting functions for a portfolio of Midwest properties and ensure GAAP compliance.
• Prepare general ledger and financial reporting through Yardi and report to owners and agencies.
• Review and process Accounts Payable and assist with check generation.
• Maintain monthly general ledgers and review the work of Staff Accountants.
• Reconcile related bank accounts and select balance sheet and income statement accounts.
• Post recurring journal entries and assist with month-end close.
• Prepare and submit HUD Housing Assistance Payment vouchers to HUD.
• Maintain escrow accounts (mortgage, reserve, insurance) and depreciation schedules.
• Prepare and compile monthly/quarterly/annual reports for management, investors, and agencies.
