JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Property Accountant is responsible for the financial reporting for all assigned properties with emphasis on account analysis, journal entries, and bank reconciliations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Communication and interaction with property management teams.
  • Handling accounts payable for separate entities and vendors
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with new and existing vendors
  • Monitor properties cash position regularly.
  • Complete daily and monthly cash reconciliations.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly.
  • Responsible for recording fixed assets and booking depreciation.
  • Work with Property & Regional Managers to develop budget variance explanations.
  • Create and post adjusting journal entries.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements according to GAAP which includes in-depth review of general ledger, and balance sheet & income statement accounts.
  • Ensure internal and external reporting deadlines are met.
  • Help develop and update Accounting Policies and Procedures
  • Assist in training and managing completion of tasks of Accounting Specialists.
  • Assist in setting up books for newly acquired properties.
  • Assist in the final accounting for acquisitions and dispositions.
  • Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Complete other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or finance, required.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience (multi-family property industry preferred)
  • Knowledge of Entrata or other property management software/systems preferred

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification or working towards certification.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Must possess demonstrated effective written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong general math skills.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and meticulous records.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, planning, and execution skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software; possesses strong general computer skills.
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn accounting software/systems.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn Property Management software/systems.
  • Bilingual ability in English and Spanish preferred, but not required

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid driver’s license required
