The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Property Accountant to manage the full-cycle accounting responsibilities for an assigned portfolio of commercial and residential real estate assets. Reporting to senior accounting leadership, this role offers broad exposure to property accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, lender reporting, and cross-functional collaboration with Property Management and Asset Management teams. This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant with early real estate or hospitality accounting experience who wants to continue building a career within institutional real estate.
Key Responsibilities
Property Accounting
- Perform full-cycle accounting for an assigned portfolio of real estate assets
- Prepare monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and supporting schedules
- Record journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and recurring accounting transactions in accordance with GAAP
- Prepare account reconciliations and ensure the accuracy of general ledger activity
- Monitor cash activity and support cash management processes
- Participate in monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Prepare detailed balance sheet reconciliations and supporting workpapers
- Perform variance analysis and explain financial results
- Prepare lender reporting packages and other recurring financial reports
- Support annual audits and other financial reporting requirements
Property Operations Support
- Review and process tenant billings, rent activity, CAM reconciliations, and other property-related transactions
- Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable activity for assigned properties
- Monitor tenant receipts and payment activity
- Partner with Property Management to resolve accounting questions and operational issues
Budgeting & Analysis
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting activities
- Analyze operating results against budget and prior periods
- Assist with special financial analyses and ad hoc reporting
- Support continuous process improvement initiatives within the accounting function
Compliance
- Prepare required state and local tax filings
- Maintain compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
- Ensure accounting records remain accurate, complete, and audit-ready
- Assist with internal control and documentation initiatives
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2+ years of accounting experience
- Property accounting, real estate accounting, or hospitality accounting experience preferred
- Experience with Yardi or similar property management software is a plus
- Strong understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting reporting deadlines
