Senior Project Manager - Transmission Routing and Siting

HDR is seeking an experienced leader to develop buildable routing and siting solutions for electric transmission projects.

What you will do
  • Develop buildable routing and siting solutions to support utility and developer infrastructure
  • Collaborate with project teams, including utility and developer staff and consultants
  • Engage stakeholders such as government agencies, regulators, communities and landowners
  • Prepare testimony and technical documentation, including studies to present defensible line route and facility site selection
  • Manage project scope, schedule and budget
  • Coach and develop new staff to produce client deliverables
  • Build key relationships with HDR and utility staff
  • Strategic thinking, networking, client relations and lead development
  • Travel 10‑20%
  • Perform other duties as needed
Ideal Candidate
  • Prior experience managing and providing technical leadership on projects, seeking broader leadership over larger, more complex projects
  • Strong background in routing, siting and supporting regulatory approvals for electric facilities; expert witness testimony experience desired
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, research and write concise technical documents, and deliver on tight deadlines; detail‑oriented, organized, effective communicator and team player with quality focus
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, environmental science, community planning, engineering, landscape architecture or related field
  • Minimum 10 years in linear projects involving land acquisition, routing or environmental planning
  • Minimum 8 years writing proposals, developing scopes, budgets and schedules for complex environmental projects with multidisciplinary teams and multi‑agency efforts, focused on siting and routing studies
  • Experience preparing applications for state utility regulatory agencies and system operators
  • Experience providing expert witness testimony
  • Understanding of permit requirements
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, analytical, problem‑solving and research abilities
  • Ability to support multiple complex and time‑sensitive projects effectively
  • Identify and resolve issues efficiently
  • Proactive interaction with design and construction teams
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 10 years related experience
  • Minimum 5 years project management experience
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, estimating and scheduling software, and project management software
  • Excellent organizational, project management and communication skills

Benefits & Compensation

HDR offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, an employee assistance program, paid time away, parental leave, paid holidays, retirement savings with employer match, referral bonus and tuition reimbursement. The compensation range for this position in the North Central region is $125,000 – $180,000.
