Job summary

Samsung Austin Semiconductor, a leader in advanced semiconductor technology, seeks a Project Manager (Tool Hookup Mechanical) to drive on-site engineering, scheduling, and construction execution for process mechanical hookups in a semiconductor foundry.

You will coordinate with trade contractors, field engineers, and equipment vendors to ensure safe connections, on time delivery, and strict adherence to technical designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of project management or field engineering in large-scale industrial piping or high-purity utilities.
• Minimum 2 years direct experience executing construction or tool installation in an active semiconductor cleanroom.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification; CCM or CAPM/PMP is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily field coordination with mechanical and piping contractors, resolving constraints on the cleanroom floor.
• Coordinate tactical handoffs between infrastructure teams and tool installation crews to maintain progress.
• Monitor and report schedule milestones, manpower, and material rates for tool sets.
• Review RFIs and FCOs, validate field conditions before escalation.

Position Summary

The Project Manager (Tool Hookup Mechanical) manages the day-to-day engineering, scheduling, and tactical construction execution for process mechanical and exhaust tool hookups within a semiconductor foundry. Operating on the production floor and sub-fab, this role coordinates directly with trade contractors, field engineers, and equipment vendors to ensure individual manufacturing tools are connected safely, on schedule, and in strict compliance with technical designs. The position carries direct responsibility for resolving field issues, enforcing construction quality, and driving the mechanical hookup sequence for assigned tool sectors.

Responsibilities

• Primaryfieldcontactformechanicalandpipingtradecontractors,coordinatingdailyworkpackagesandresolvingimmediateconstraintsonthecleanroomfloor.
• Coordinatetacticalhandoffsbetweenfacilityinfrastructureteamsandtool-specificinstallationcrewstomaintainsteadyprogress.
• Monitorandreportdailyonschedulemilestones,manpowerlevels,andmaterialinstallationratesforassignedtoolsets.
• Reviewcontractor-submittedRequestsforInformation(RFIs)andFieldChangeOrders(FCOs),validatingfieldconditionsbeforeescalatingforapproval.
• Walkthefielddailytoenforcestrictconstructionsafetystandards,zero-tolerancehigh-pressure/chemicalsafetyrules,andcleanroomprotocolcompliance.

CoreJobFunctions

• OverseethephysicalinstallationandroutingofUltra-PureWater(UPW),chemicaldelivery,industrialwastewater,andbulk/specialtygaslinesfromlocalvalveboxesdirectlytothetoolchassis.
• Supervisethelayout,connection,andtestingofgeneral,acid,ammonia,andsolventexhaustlinesfromthetooltothemainsub-fabcollectionheaders.
• Utilize3Dmodelsinthefieldtoresolveroutingconflictsbetweencomplexpipingruns,exhaustducts,andneighboringelectricalorstructuralsystems.
• Directanddocumentcriticalfieldqualitychecks,includingheliumleaktesting,analyticalgastesting,hydrostaticpressuretesting,andvisualhigh-purityweldinspections.
• Coordinatethelockout/tagout(LOTO),lineflushing,andinitialchemical/gasintroductionsequencesforindividualtools,ensuringalllinesaresafetoactivate.
• Generate,track,andsystematicallycloseoutmechanicalpunchlistitemstoachievefinalsystemacceptanceandhandover.

• Bachelor’sdegreeinMechanicalEngineering,ChemicalEngineering,ConstructionManagement,orarelatedtechnicaldiscipline;orequivalentpracticalexperience(e.g.,advancedpipefitter/millwrightbackgroundwithextensiveindustrialleadership).

• 4+yearsofprojectmanagementorfieldengineeringexperienceinlarge-scaleindustrialpiping,mechanical,orhigh-purityutilityconstruction.

• Minimum2yearsofdirectexperienceexecutingconstructionortoolinstallactivitieswithinanactivesemiconductorcleanroomenvironment.

• OSHA30-HourConstructioncertificationisrequired;CertifiedConstructionManager(CCM)orinitialCAPM/PMPcertificationisaplus.

MandatoryKnowledge,Skills,andCompetencies

• Solidunderstandingofindustrialmechanicalinstallations,includinghigh-purityorbitalwelding,plasticfusionwelding,pipesloping,andductconnectionmethods.

• Practicalknowledgeofspecializedpipingmaterialsusedinwaferfabrication,includingPVDF,PFA,andElectropolishedStainlessSteel(316LEP).

• Practicalknowledgeofcleanroomprotocols(Class10toClass1000)andproceduresrequiredtopreventparticulateorchemicalcontaminationduringactivepipecuttingandmodification.

• Proficiencyinnavigatingandextractingdatafromdigitalinformationmodelingviewers(e.g.,AutodeskNavisworks)andprojectmanagementsoftware.

The current base salary range for this role is between $106,000 - $145,000. Individual base pay rates will depend on factors including duties, work location, education, skills, qualifications and experience. Total compensation for this position will include a competitive benefits package and may include participation in company incentive compensation programs, which are based on factors to include organizational and individual performance.
