Job summary

MPI in San Diego seeks a Senior Project Manager to lead commercial Tenant Improvement and Special Projects within a fast-paced environment. This role offers ownership from preconstruction to closeout and collaboration with Superintendents, subs, clients, and design teams to deliver on time and within budget.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in commercial construction with TI/Special Projects focus and a track record managing projects around $10M or less.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing projects generally $10M or less.

Responsibilities

  • Manage commercial Tenant Improvement and Special Projects from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and financial controls.
  • Lead subcontractor procurement, buyout, contract negotiations, and performance.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
  • Partner closely with Superintendents to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, architects, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Lead project meetings and effectively communicate project status and potential issues.
  • Identify project risks and develop solutions before they impact schedule or budget.
  • Manage client expectations and serve as a trusted point of contact throughout the project.
  • Support business development, preconstruction, and project pursuit efforts.
  • Assist with mentoring and developing other project team members.
  • Manage project turnover, punch list, and closeout.

As a Senior Project Manager, you will have significant ownership of your projects from preconstruction through completion while working closely with Superintendents, subcontractors, clients, architects, and the broader project team.

A well-established and highly respected commercial General Contractor is looking to add a Senior Project Manager to its growing Special Projects Group in San Diego.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced commercial construction professional to join an established Special Projects platform with a clear path to eventually becoming the leader of the Special Projects Group for the San Diego market.

The Special Projects Group focuses on fast-paced commercial Tenant Improvement and renovation projects typically valued at $10M and under. Projects generally have aggressive schedules of approximately 16 weeks and span a diverse range of industries, including Aerospace, Retail, Advanced Technology/Fuel Cell, Occupied Facilities, and Campus Improvements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial TI/Special Projects and the leadership ability, business acumen, and ambition to eventually take ownership of the San Diego operation.
