Job description

Vero was founded in 2017 with a focus on bridging the digital divide by serving schools and libraries in unserved and underserved areas.

We have also established a fiber to the premises business that directly serves residential and small business customers in underserved regions.

In addition, we now serve a small subset of large business and wholesale customers, which we typically use as a springboard for our consumer-focused services for underserved communities.

Our management team brings decades of experience in building and operating fiber networks for various customer segments, including residential, business, and wholesale clients. This position is remote (within the United States) and is responsible for overall project management (schedule and budget) for multiple large fiber optic construction projects.

Reports to the Regional Director of Operations.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the acquisition process for long haul deployment facilities, including vendor management, analyzing segment distances to identify target site areas, and negotiating and coordinating agreements with landowners for property acquisition.
  • Coordinate with vendors and review documentation such as title reports, surveys, ALTA commitments, phase 1 ESA reports, geotechnical surveys, and reports.
  • Coordinate documentation between title companies, legal firms, vendors, and owners, including closing of final site acquisition agreements. Procure critical infrastructure components and electrical utilities for each site, and obtain necessary municipal and environmental approvals. Oversee site construction, including telecom shelter placement, integration, and site testing, turn-up, and handoff.
  • Identify candidate OSP engineering/construction firms, manage bid/vendor selection processes, and negotiate contracts.
  • Perform service delivery functions, including providing regular customer updates (written and/or oral), coordinating site access, and preparing close-out packages. Work with local, state, and federal permitting agencies to secure timely permit approvals and manage environmental engineering vendors and related subcontractors. Document splicing requirements and maintain fiber engineering documentation. Manage tactical project activities, including schedules, project calls, and support functions such as securing bonds and internal signatures for permits. Provide build cost estimates for the sales team. Maintain up-to-date network maps in Vero’s proprietary geospatial platform, including design changes and final as-built routes. Provide accurate network maps to state 811 agencies and Vero Networks NOC, including configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting details for operations.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in project management or engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in ILA project management, ideally with long haul experience.
  • Strong familiarity with remote in-line amplification site components such as generators, HVAC, AC, and DC systems.
  • Knowledge of telecom shelter alarms, security, and monitoring systems.
  • Ability to develop detailed project schedules and manage work activities for timely completion.
  • Strong planning skills to anticipate and mitigate project risks.

Preferred Skills:

  • Geospatial Information System (GIS) experience and spatial data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and vendor management skills.
  • Strong fiber project management skills.
  • Experience navigating NEPA, CEQA, Section 106, and related processes.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive benefits package including paid time off, holidays, and paid family medical leave.
  • Salary DOE: $110,000 - $125,000 plus bonus (up to 15%).
