Job summary

Leap29 is seeking a seasoned Project Delivery Leader to oversee large-scale energy storage projects in the United States. Reporting to the Director of Project Delivery, you will guide cross-functional teams, manage EPC contractors, utilities, and partners to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Ideal candidates have a strong electrical engineering background and 10+ years in utility, renewable energy, transmission, or energy storage programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience managing large-scale infrastructure, utility, renewable energy, or energy storage projects.
• Proven track record delivering projects valued at $50M+.
• Strong understanding of BESS, HV/MV systems, substations, and grid interconnections.
• PMP, APM, or equivalent project management certification.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of utility-scale BESS projects from planning through commissioning and handover.
• Develop and manage schedules, budgets, risk registers, and resource plans.
• Oversee EPC contractors, Owner's Engineers, OEMs, consultants, and commissioning teams.
• Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards.
• Coordinate engineering reviews for HV/MV systems and SCADA/EMS.
• Maintain stakeholder relationships with utilities, regulators, landowners, and partners.
• Drive project performance through proactive risk management and issue resolution.
• Prepare executive reports for senior leadership and investors.
• Mentor and support Project Managers and delivery teams.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Project Delivery, you will be responsible for the successful execution of large-scale energy storage projects from pre-construction through commissioning and commercial operation. You will lead cross-functional teams and manage EPC contractors, OEMs, utilities, consultants, and key stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

This role is ideally suited to a project delivery professional with a strong electrical engineering background and extensive experience in utility, power generation, renewable energy, transmission, substation, or energy storage projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end delivery of utility-scale BESS projects ranging from 100MW to 500MW+.


• Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, risk registers, and resource plans.


• Oversee EPC contractors, Owner's Engineers, OEMs, consultants, and commissioning teams.


• Ensure compliance with project quality, safety, and environmental standards.


• Coordinate engineering reviews for HV/MV electrical systems, substations, protection systems, SCADA, and grid interconnection facilities.


• Manage stakeholder relationships with utilities, regulatory authorities, landowners, and project partners.


• Drive project performance through proactive risk management and issue resolution.


• Monitor contract performance and commercial obligations.


• Lead energization, commissioning, performance testing, and project handover activities.


• Prepare executive-level project reporting for senior leadership and investors.


• Mentor and support Project Managers, Project Engineers, and delivery teams.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.


• 10+ years of experience managing large-scale infrastructure, utility, renewable energy, power generation, transmission, or energy storage projects.


• Proven track record delivering projects valued at $50M+.


• Strong understanding of:


• Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)


• High Voltage and Medium Voltage Electrical Systems


• Substations and Grid Interconnections


• Protection & Control Systems


• SCADA and Energy Management Systems


• Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.


• Strong commercial, contractual, and stakeholder management skills.


• PMP, APM, or equivalent project management certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) License.


• Experience with utility-scale solar plus storage projects.


• Knowledge of ERCOT, PJM, MISO, CAISO, or ISO-NE markets.


• Experience delivering projects greater than 250MW.


• Familiarity with lithium-ion battery technologies, commissioning, and operational readiness programs.
