Job summary

Gresham Smith is seeking a Senior Project Manager/Engineer in Water & Environment to lead projects spanning water, wastewater, stormwater conveyance, and treatment. You will guide multidisciplinary teams, manage scope and budget, and ensure high-quality reports and designs.

The ideal candidate holds a PE license with 15 years of leadership experience and strong modeling and design expertise, plus proficiency in MS Office, Power BI, Civil 3D/Revit, and SpecLink.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure is required.
• 15 years of experience leading projects from a technical perspective (water, wastewater and stormwater conveyance including pump stations; wastewater treatment experience a plus).
• Strong technical background designing water/wastewater utility systems, pipelines, pump stations, storage.
• Proven ability to develop project plans, address issues, lead client meetings, and produce technical reports and designs.
• Ability to prepare high-quality reports and memos; sealing design plans and specs; strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all phases of project delivery from pursuit to final design and bid-ready documents.
• Provide clear direction to multidisciplinary teams and promote collaboration to meet client and firm objectives.
• Lead planning and detailed design of water/wastewater conveyance systems, pump stations, and storage facilities.
• Perform design analyses, asset condition assessments, system modeling, and permitting.
• Serve as Project Manager or Engineer-of-Record to ensure technical integrity, schedule, and compliance.

About the Role

Our Water & Environment Market is seeking a Senior Project Manager with an engineering background to work on projects related to water, wastewater, stormwater/conveyance, and treatment. Our team of project professionals will provide you with support and flexibility, allowing you to produce high-quality work while maintaining a work-life balance. Our projects are engaging, challenging, and have a significant impact on the communities we serve.

As a Senior Project Manager (Engineer), you will

• Oversee all phases of project delivery, including pursuit strategy, client interviews, proposal support, project scoping, scheduling, team coordination, budget and change management, and quality assurance.
• Provide clear direction to multidisciplinary teams, effectively communicate project goals, and promote collaboration to achieve successful outcomes aligned with client and firm objectives.
• Independently lead and review planning and detailed design of infrastructure projects, such as water and wastewater conveyance systems, pump stations, and storage facilities, encompassing master plans, concept through final design, and bid-ready documents.
• Execute and review design analyses including basis-of-design documentation, asset condition assessments, infrastructure siting, system modeling, and permitting.
• Serve in key roles such as Project Manager, Engineer-of-Record, Technical Advisor, or Quality Control Reviewer to ensure technical integrity, schedule adherence, and compliance with industry and client standards.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of market drivers and resource management to support operational goals, improve project delivery practices, and contribute to business growth.
• Be recognized within the organization and industry as a credible leader with deep technical expertise and proven success delivering complex water/wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships by serving as a trusted advisor, understanding client goals, and consistently delivering high-quality solutions that meet or exceed expectations.
