Job summary

Gresham Smith is seeking a mid-level Project Engineer for our Alabama and Georgia offices. You will plan, design, and evaluate water and wastewater conveyance and utility projects, working with a team to deliver high-quality results that support thriving communities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • P.E. licensure is required.
  • Minimum of 6 years of water/wastewater conveyance engineering experience in a consultant capacity for local government/municipal or industrial clients.
  • Working knowledge of local and state design codes and standards.
  • Detailed civil design experience for water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and conveyance systems.
  • Proficient with MS Office, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Civil 3D, REVIT, and hydraulic/stormwater/process modeling software.
  • Excellent written and oral communication with ability to lead and deliver persuasive presentations to build client confidence.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and evaluate water and wastewater conveyance and utility projects, including relocations.
  • Support study and design projects, including collection, conveyance, pumping, treatment, and distribution systems, and environmental compliance.
  • Perform hydraulic modeling, including stormwater H&H, gravity pipe/open channel flow, and pressure systems for water distribution and wastewater mains.
  • Prepare design calculations, technical reports, specifications, and opinions of probable construction cost.
  • Support construction through field visits, submittal reviews, and coordination with contractors.
  • Maintain client relationships and contribute to on-time, high-quality project delivery.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

About You

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering, or other related field required.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure is required.

  • Must be exceptional in written and oral communication, with the ability to lead, develop, and deliver highly persuasive presentations that build client confidence and result in securing favorable design contracts.

About the Role

Our Alabama and Georgia office locations have an opening for an ambitious, mid-level engineer with broad experience in stormwater and conveyance projects. Our team of project professionals will provide you with support and flexibility, allowing you to produce high-quality work while maintaining a work-life balance. Our projects are engaging, challenging, and have a significant impact on the communities we serve.

As a Project Engineer, you will:

  • Plan, design, and evaluate water and wastewater conveyance and utility projects, including relocations.
  • Provide support for study and design projects, including collection, conveyance, pumping, treatment, and distribution systems, and environmental compliance.
