Position Overview
I am currently headhunting a Senior Electrical Project Manager on behalf of a premier specialty electrical contractor expanding its mission-critical division. This role will lead large-scale electrical infrastructure installations for hyperscale data center builds. Direct data center construction experience is a strict, non-negotiable requirement.
The position carries full operational and financial leadership over mega-scale electrical packages ranging from $50M to $100M+, ensuring complex power distribution systems are delivered safely, on schedule, and under budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Mega-Project Delivery: Own the complete project life cycle of heavy industrial electrical installations from pre-construction planning and utility coordination through to final client handover.
- Financial Control: Maintain total P&L accountability for the electrical scope, including heavy forecasting, cash flow optimization, material procurement, and complex change-order negotiations.
- Utility & Client Leadership: Act as the primary point of contact for high-voltage utility providers, engineering firms, and hyperscale tech clients to manage grid connections and massive equipment integrations.
- Critical Path Management: Oversee complex scheduling, sub-contractor coordination, and long-lead electrical equipment delivery metrics (transformers, switchgear, generators) utilizing Primavera P6 or MS Project.
- Commissioning Oversight: Direct data center QA/QC programs and track validation protocols through to successful Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and facility energisation.
Qualifications Required
- Experience: 10+ years of project management experience within heavy industrial electrical contracting, with a proven track record of running the electrical scopes on multiple completed hyperscale or enterprise data center projects.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep, specialized mastery of data center power architecture, including medium/high-voltage distribution, substations, switchgear, and redundant backup power systems (UPS/Generators).
- Project Controls: Capability in managing multi-million dollar electrical construction budgets, global vendor logistics, and high-density workforce scheduling.
- Certifications: OSHA 30 required; a degree in Electrical Engineering or Construction Management is highly preferred.
