Job description

Skanska is searching for a dynamic Senior Project Manager on-site in the tri-cities area of Washington.

This is a great opportunity to start a career with a company that builds things that matter and values its team. We are proud to share our culture of diversity and inclusion.

Our work makes a clear contribution to society and the environment around us. We build in many different verticals. Whether we are building schools to provide inspiring spaces for learning, roads to connect communities or hospitals to care for patients, it all contributes to our purpose - we build for a better society.

Skanska's values - Be Better Together, Act Ethically and Transparently, Commit to Customer and Care for Life - are deeply engrained in how we work, which is why our values support and drive our D&I efforts.

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for providing senior-level leadership, direction, and oversight for large, complex construction projects or multiple concurrent assignments within Skanska USA Building Inc. This role is accountable for managing the full lifecycle of project delivery, from preconstruction, planning, procurement, and contract administration through construction, commissioning, turnover, and closeout. The Senior Project Manager helps ensure that projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with client expectations, contractual requirements, financial objectives, schedule milestones, quality standards, and Skanska’s operational practices.

Serving as a central leader on the project team, the Senior Project Manager works in close partnership with Project Executives, Superintendents, Project Managers, Project Engineers, clients, architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal support functions to establish project strategy, align key stakeholders, and maintain disciplined execution. This role is responsible for leading major project management functions, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, subcontract administration, procurement, document management, change management, risk identification, issue resolution, and performance reporting. The Senior Project Manager is expected to evaluate project conditions proactively, anticipate challenges, and make sound, timely decisions that support overall project success.

A key aspect of this position is financial and operational stewardship. The Senior Project Manager is responsible for monitoring the financial health of the project, managing forecasts and cost exposure, supporting fee protection, reviewing contract obligations, and helping ensure that commercial decisions are made with a clear understanding of project risk and business impact. This individual also plays an important role in maintaining schedule performance by collaborating with field leadership and trade partners to address procurement timelines, sequencing issues, labor coordination, design clarifications, and other factors that can influence progress and productivity.

The Senior Project Manager also serves as an important relationship leader, helping to build and maintain trust with clients and project partners through consistent communication, professionalism, transparency, and responsiveness. This role represents Skanska in meetings, negotiations, and high-level project discussions, and is expected to help resolve complex concerns while reinforcing confidence in the team’s ability to deliver. In addition, the Senior Project Manager supports a culture of collaboration and accountability across the project team, helping ensure that communication is clear, expectations are understood, and responsibilities are executed effectively.

Successful performance in this role requires deep construction knowledge, strong leadership ability, sound business judgment, and the capability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment. The Senior Project Manager is expected to model and reinforce Skanska’s values of safety, ethics, inclusion, sustainability, and continuous improvement while mentoring less experienced team members and strengthening overall team capability. Through disciplined project leadership, strong client service, and a commitment to operational excellence, the Senior Project Manager contributes directly to the successful delivery of projects and the long-term strength and reputation of Skanska USA Building Inc.

  • 6+ years of experience maintaining or exceeding planned profit targets for projects.
  • 6+ years creating and maintaining a culture of safety.
  • 6+ years experience developing a culture of quality assurance and control.
  • 6+ years managing and developing succesful teams.
