Senior Project Manager

Full Time Employee Non-Officer Kansas City, MO, US

nbkc bank is looking for a Senior Project Manager to join our Product & Project Management team.

This role is for someone who thrives on solving complex business challenges, driving alignment across teams, and leading high-impact initiatives that move an organization forward.

As a Senior Project Manager, you'll lead strategic, cross-functional projects that support key priorities across our Deposit, Lending, and Operations teams. You'll partner closely with executive leaders, business stakeholders, and external vendors to guide initiatives from concept through implementation while helping shape how work gets prioritized, executed, and measured across the organization.

This is a business-focused project management role rather than a technical PM role. We're looking for a strategic thinker who can navigate ambiguity, influence without authority, build strong relationships, and drive meaningful business outcomes.

This position works @Flex, with a combination of time in the office and at home.

What You'll Do
  • Lead large-scale, cross-functional business initiatives from discovery and planning through implementation and post-launch evaluation.
  • Partner with stakeholders and Executive Sponsors to define project objectives, success measures, scope, priorities, and business outcomes.
  • Drive organizational alignment by facilitating discussions, influencing decisions, and helping teams navigate competing priorities.
  • Manage multiple strategic initiatives simultaneously while balancing timelines, resources, dependencies, risks, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, communication strategies, governance structures, and executive reporting.
  • Identify project risks, roadblocks, and dependencies while proactively developing mitigation plans.
  • Lead vendor implementations and strategic partnerships, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and business objectives are achieved.
  • Analyze existing processes and workflows, identify opportunities for improvement, and lead initiatives that increase efficiency and scalability.
  • Facilitate executive-level discussions and provide meaningful project updates, recommendations, and risk assessments.
  • Promote project management best practices and help strengthen project delivery capabilities across the organization.
  • Drive accountability, momentum, and successful execution across cross-functional teams.
What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years of experience leading complex cross-functional projects and business initiatives.
  • 7+ years of banking, financial services, fintech, consulting, or other highly regulated industry experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, departments, competing priorities, and significant business impact.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to evaluate challenges, identify solutions, and translate business needs into actionable plans.
  • Experience partnering with senior leaders and executive stakeholders to drive strategic initiatives.
  • Proven ability to influence outcomes and build consensus without direct authority.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Experience with project management platforms such as Monday.com or similar tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bonus Points
  • Experience supporting Deposit Operations, Lending, Banking Operations, Payments, or other financial services functions.
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide process improvement, business transformation, or organizational change initiatives.
  • Experience managing complex vendor implementations and strategic third-party relationships.
  • Consulting experience with a focus on business process improvement, operational excellence, or transformation.
  • Experience working within banking, financial services, fintech, or another highly regulated environment.
  • PMP, Agile, Six Sigma, Lean, or other relevant project management or process improvement certifications.
  • A consultative mindset with the confidence to ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions, and recommend better solutions.
  • Experience presenting project updates, recommendations, and strategic insights to executive leadership.
Why This Role?

At nbkc, you'll have the opportunity to lead meaningful initiatives that directly impact our customers, employees, and business. You'll partner with talented teams across the organization, help shape strategic priorities, and drive projects that create lasting value in a collaborative, people-first environment.
