Job summary

USAM DC is seeking a Project Engineering Manager to lead the Project Engineering Department through the submittal process from estimating handoff to Production Engineering. You will ensure drawings are coordinated, approved, and production-ready with no outstanding submittal items.

The role requires leading project engineers, overseeing budgets, hiring, training, and establishing SOPs while coordinating with Estimating, PM and Production Engineering to ensure smooth transitions and on-time

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred.
• 5 years' experience in architectural millwork or similar.
• Familiarity with AWI Standards.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD millwork drafting.
• Experience with Microvellum Toolbox.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings.
• Strong MS Office skills, especially Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, problem solving, and conflict resolution.

Responsibilities

• Assist with scheduling and planning new projects and revisions.
• Assign Lead Project Engineers to new projects based on workload and resources.
• Oversee the submittal engineering process to keep projects on schedule.
• Monitor and track submittal budgets per project.
• Identify potential schedule, staffing, resource, and workload issues early.
• Provide problem-solving support to the engineering team.
• Provide training and development for engineers and staff.
• Develop, implement, and maintain department SOPs and workflows.
• Improve department workflows, efficiency, and quality.
• Identify and develop new drafting resources as needed.
• Participate in hiring, onboarding, and personnel development.
• Conduct mid-year and annual employee performance reviews.
• Approve Engineering timesheets in ADP and ensure cost coding.
• Coordinate with Estimating, PM, Production Engineering and others for smooth transitions.
• Maintain accountability for project quality, schedule and budget.
