Position Summary:

Our client is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to support the estimating, planning, and delivery of construction projects. This is a varied position that will work closely with project managers, estimators, engineers, superintendents, subcontractors, and field crews.

The role includes quantity takeoffs, cost estimating, scheduling, procurement, submittals, RFIs, change management, field coordination, cost reporting, and quality control. Depending on experience, this person may also take ownership of smaller projects or individual scopes within larger and more complex projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and pricing for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontracted work
  • Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and contract documents to understand project requirements
  • Contact subcontractors and suppliers to gather current pricing and confirm bid interest
  • Support bid-day quote comparisons, cost estimates, and post-bid analysis
  • Assist with project schedules, including work breakdown structures, sequencing, activity durations, and progress updates
  • Prepare and manage submittals, RFIs, change orders, purchase orders, subcontract documents, and payment applications
  • Coordinate materials, equipment, vendors, and installation requirements with project and field teams
  • Provide technical support to superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and other site personnel
  • Maintain project records, as-built drawings, meeting minutes, status reports, warranties, and closeout documentation
  • Track project budgets, costs, labor, quantities, pending changes, and estimated cost at completion
  • Participate in site visits, field inspections, project meetings, and pre-bid walkthroughs
  • Support quality control through document reviews, field inspections, deficiency tracking, and QA/QC reporting
  • Work with project safety teams to develop activity hazard analyses and address unsafe conditions
  • Assist with VDC and BIM tools, model-based takeoffs, drone data, clash detection, and construction sequencing where required
  • Help resolve unexpected site conditions by coordinating with design, field, and project management teams
  • Provide guidance and support to junior project staff when needed
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred
  • At least 3 years of related construction, engineering, or project delivery experience
  • Equivalent directly related experience may be considered in place of a degree
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and contract documents
  • Experience with estimating, quantity takeoffs, project controls, field coordination, or scheduling
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable identifying project discrepancies, researching causes, and recommending practical solutions
  • Familiarity with construction scheduling, critical path activities, and time impact analysis is helpful
  • Working knowledge of construction terminology, cost tracking, change management, and quality control
  • Comfortable using construction technology, project management systems, and standard business software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Well organized and able to manage several priorities and deadlines at once
  • Able to make sound decisions independently while still working well within a wider project team
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required
