Senior Project Engineer - Structural/Bridge

Overview

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our team in our Fort Worth, TX office. Our ideal candidate will have 5+ years of bridge project experience and be willing to continue to build and grow a structural and bridge engineering department. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Create, build, and grow a bridge engineering department.
  2. Responsible for structural design of bridges and ancillary transportation structures for TxDot and municipal clients.
  3. Conduct field reviews of existing bridges designated for replacement or rehabilitation.
  4. Prepare preliminary bridge design and structure survey reports.
  5. Coordinate project activities including geotechnical investigation, hydrology and hydraulics, environmental reports and permitting, survey, and roadway design.
  6. Prepare or oversee structural design, specifications, and plans.
  7. Provide professional and technical support to multiple projects.
  8. Support and collaborate with Project Managers.
  9. Communicate project details with clients, agencies, and the public.
  10. Mentor, train, and supervise less experienced engineers and technical staff.
  11. Ensure compliance with division, regional, and company policies.
  12. Lead by example, demonstrating sound judgment, integrity, trust, and professionalism.

Required Skills

  1. Bridge inspection experience is a plus.
  2. Excellent communication skills.
  3. Detail-oriented with a positive work environment contribution.
  4. Ability to work independently and in teams.
  5. Familiarity with TxDOT Bridge Manual, Facilities Development Manual, and AASHTO LRFD design code.
  6. Proficiency in Microstation or AutoCAD.
  7. Experience with bridge engineering software such as Leap Bridge or Eriksson.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  9. Attention to detail and quality assurance skills.
  10. Sound engineering judgment.
  11. Effective time and workload management skills.
  12. Willingness to travel occasionally.

Required Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering from an ABET-accredited college.
  2. Experience creating TxDOT design plans.
  3. Licensed Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in Texas or capable of obtaining within 6 months.
  4. 5+ years of bridge/structural engineering experience.
