Job summary

AEP is seeking an Engineering Lead to guide complex generation projects through the full lifecycle. You will develop and manage engineering work plans, lead design reviews, and coordinate across engineering, operations, IT, OEMs, and regulatory bodies.

Responsibilities include providing technical support during construction and commissioning, delivering progress updates, and traveling to facilities as needed. Strong PE credentials are preferred for senior levels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or qualifying Master's/PhD alternatives.
  • Engineer SG7: two or more years of related engineering experience.
  • Engineer Senior SG8: 4+ years of related engineering experience with a bachelor's, or 2 years with a master's/PhD.
  • Engineer Principal SG9: 8+ years with bachelor's or 6 years with master's/PhD.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration varies by level; preferred or required for Principal unless waived.
  • Engineering Technology bachelor's degree candidates must obtain a PE license.
  • Alternative: non-ABET bachelor's with master's/PhD from ABET-accredited program.

  • Support delivery of new-build and retrofit power assets.

Job description

  • Serve as AEP Engineering Lead for complex, multi-disciplinary generation projects across the full project lifecycle
  • Develop and manage Engineering Work Plans
  • Lead Engineering Design Reviews and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Coordinate design efforts among AEP engineering, operations, IT/technology teams, developers, architects/engineers, OEMs, EPC contractors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders
  • Lead, facilitate, and coordinate engineering activities for generation capital projects
  • Schedule and lead engineering meetings with project stakeholders
  • Provide technical support during construction and commissioning
  • Provide regular engineering progress updates to project teams and stakeholders
  • Facilitate project closeout activities
  • Travel to generation facilities as needed
  • Support delivery of new-build and retrofit power generation assets, including gas turbine, solar, wind, BESS, environmental retrofit, and fuel conversion projects
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or qualifying Master's degree/PhD alternatives
  • Engineer SG7: two or more years of related engineering experience
  • Engineer Senior SG8: 4 or more years of related engineering experience with a bachelor's degree, or 2 years with a master's degree/PhD
  • Engineer Principal SG9: 8 or more years of related engineering experience with a bachelor's degree, or 6 years with a master's degree/PhD
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration requirements vary by level; preferred or required for Principal unless waived
  • Engineering Technology bachelor's degree candidates must obtain a certified PE license to satisfy the degree requirement
  • Acceptable alternative: non-ABET bachelor's degree in engineering plus a master's degree or PhD from a university with an ABET-accredited bachelor's program
  • Mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology preferred
  • Experience overseeing multi-discipline engineering work preferred
  • Ability to travel 25% outside Ohio within the AEP footprint during construction
  • Ability to travel to AEP generation facilities, including occasional overnight trips
