We are seeking a driven Senior Project Engineer to lead capital execution and process engineering projects across two primary mining and specialty minerals processing facilities. In this high-autonomy role, you will take full ownership of projects from initial concept, capital allocation, and flowsheet engineering through vendor procurement, site installation, commissioning, and ramp-up ("cradle to grave"). Operating with high independence across two locations, you will leverage engineering fundamentals and continuous improvement methodologies to expand plant capacity, modernize mineral processing circuits, and enhance overall site reliability and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End CapEx Execution: Lead multiple capital engineering projects concurrently ($1M–$15M+) across two processing sites, managing scoping, budget approval, engineering design, installation, and operational handoff.
- Mineral Processing Optimization: Design, spec, and optimize heavy industrial equipment—including crushing, grinding, flotation, sizing, screening, thermal drying, hydrometallurgical circuits, and bulk materials handling systems (conveyors, siloing, baghouses).
- Dual-Site Operations & Travel: Split site presence (~50% travel) between two regional operating facilities, collaborating directly with Plant Managers, Operations, and Metallurgy teams to address bottlenecks and execution risks.
- Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence: Lead root-cause analysis (RCA) and process improvement initiatives using Lean Six Sigma tools (DMAIC, VSM, Kaizen) to boost plant yield, energy efficiency, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Contractor & OEM Management: Oversee external EPC/EPCM firms, equipment OEMs, and trade contractors during construction, shutdown/turnaround execution, and commissioning phases.
- EHS & MSHA/OSHA Alignment: Ensure all project designs and on-site contractor execution adhere strictly to company safety standards, MSHA/OSHA regulations, and environmental permitting requirements (dust suppression, tailings handling, air/water compliance).
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Metallurgical, Chemical, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering.
- Experience: 5+ years of project engineering experience in mining, mineral processing, or manufacturing operations.
- Mobility: Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% between designated regional mining and processing operations.
- Independence: Demonstrated track record of running multi-discipline projects autonomously without daily supervision, balancing competing operational priorities across multiple locations.
- Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with mineral flowsheet development, mass-energy balances, process design package (PDP) review, and CAD software (AutoCAD/SolidWorks).
Preferred Qualifications
- Lean Six Sigma: Green Belt or Black Belt certification with practical application in heavy industry or mineral processing environments.
- Project Management: PMP certification or formal Capital Project Stage-Gate methodology experience.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of MSHA regulations, environmental permitting frameworks, and heavy machinery safety standards.
