Job description

We have an opportunity for a qualified Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our clients team. In this role, the successful candidate will be part of the multi‑disciplinary team performing front‑end engineering design. You will work closely with colleagues from other engineering disciplines, along with engineering firms, external consultants, and other stakeholders to contribute to the success of the company.

Responsibilities
  • Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates work related to mining requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Performs work that involves conventional engineering practices but may involve a variety of complex features.
  • Requires general knowledge of precedents mining systems and familiarity with a wide variety of principles and practices related to mining.
  • May coordinate departmental and divisional project studies and report preparation assignments.
  • This position requires an experienced and competent individual capable of successfully solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
  • Executes complex assignments related to electrical power generating station design requiring the use of advanced techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment, and/or technological methods.
  • Directs coordination with clients and other external contacts. Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff members.
  • Regularly meets and corresponds with clients or outside personnel.
  • Responsible for project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Responsible for project kickoff, including development of the scope of work, site investigation, data collection, project budgeting, project scheduling, and project setup.
  • During the design phase, responsible for design oversight and project coordination of the design team, interface with client personnel, monthly progress reporting, budget updates, and forecasting.
  • During the construction phase, responsible for coordinating with the site manager to respond to RFIs and questions.
  • Will coordinate with Department Managers to assign an engineering team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 7 years related experience, including 3 or more years managing engineering projects.
  • Previous consulting engineering experience and professional engineering license strongly preferred. Project development and project management experience is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • The position requires the ability to effectively multitask and manage numerous projects/tasks simultaneously, frequently within an aggressive and compressed schedule.
  • The ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment is crucial, as well as the ability to maintain the project schedule and achieve target due dates.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical questions and identify gaps or opportunities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven negotiation skills.
