Job summary

Facade People is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join its Engineering department and lead the structural design, analysis, and development of complex façade systems from concept through installation.

You will use hand calculations and advanced software to design cable, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and glass structures, ensuring compliance with codes while collaborating with the design team and manufacturing partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Structural, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering; advanced degree preferred.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) and/or Structural Engineer (S.E.) registration, or the ability to gain licensure.
• 8-10+ years of experience with structural design of building façade or enclosure systems; experience with metal-framed glazed systems preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of structural design codes such as AISC.
• In-depth knowledge of building codes such as IBC and ASCE 7.
• Experience using 3D frame analysis software (SAP2000, STAAD, RISA-3D, etc.)
• Experience with finite element analysis software such as Strand7, MEPLA, Abaqus, ANSYS, etc.
• Outstanding communication and organizational skills; works well in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Analyze project plans and specifications of complex support structures and building envelope systems.
• Independently analyze and design cable, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and glass structures using hand calculations, analysis software, and design codes and standards.
• Lead the development of calculation packages for support structures and façade systems in accordance with local building codes and project specifications.
• Collaborate closely with the design team to develop, review, approve and provide guidance on submittal and fabrication/manufacturing drawings.
• Work directly with the Engineering Manager to develop design concepts for complex projects and façade systems.

Job description

Our client is a specialty structural glass design, engineering and manufacturing company that serves the needs of progressive architecture and building industry professionals on some of the most unique and challenging structural glass projects in the world.

We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join the Engineering department as it expands. In this role you will perform structural design and oversee projects through the approval, manufacturing, and installation phases. Knowledge of, or an interest in learning, the ins and outs of steel, stainless steel and aluminum manufacturing is critical to success.

This is a full-time onsite position with ample room for learning, professional growth, and development for those who demonstrate the desire and ability to understand the complexities involved in the custom fabrication of structural glass and specialty façade systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Analyze project plans and specifications of complex support structures and building envelope systems
• Independently analyze and design cable, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and glass structures using hand calculations, analysis software, and design codes and standards

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in Structural, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering; advanced degree preferred
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) and/or Structural Engineer (S.E.) registration, or the ability to gain licensure
• 8-10+ years of experience with structural design of building façade or enclosure systems; experience with metal-framed glazed systems preferred
• Understanding of basic and advanced structural engineering concepts, including static calculations, non-linear material and geometry behavior, buckling of slender elements, and structural dynamics
• In-depth knowledge of material design codes such as AISC
• In-depth knowledge of building codes such as IBC and ASCE 7
• Experience using 3D frame analysis software such as SAP2000, STAAD, RISA-3D, etc.
• Experience with finite element analysis software such as Strand7, MEPLA, Abaqus, ANSYS, etc.
• Experience interpreting project plans and specifications of structural systems
• Outstanding communication and organizational skills
• Exceptional attention to detail
• Works well in a team environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Experience with manufacturing and installation processes, including developing, reviewing, and approving manufacturing drawings
• Experience with design of glass and aluminum systems
• Experience with façade thermal analysis (WINDOW, THERM, etc.)
• Experience with blast design and analysis
