Job summary

DPR Construction in Texas seeks a Construction Engineer with SPW expertise to join the self-perform team. You will collaborate with SPW crews and project supervision to integrate SPW scopes with plans, schedules, and quality requirements, and monitor progress and safety.

You will review SPW drawings, submittals, and change orders for accuracy, run project controls, and prepare SPW progress reports. A 4–6 year background in construction engineering and a related BS are expected, with OSHA 30

Qualifications

  • BS degree in a related field or equivalent experience required.
  • 4–6 years of experience in construction engineering or a related field.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification preferred; completion within 6 months of hire is required.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews moderately complex SPW scopes to ensure alignment with design specs and SPW quality benchmarks.
  • Coordinates with SPW project managers and crews to maintain productivity and progress.
  • Reviews SPW drawings, shop drawings, submittals, and change orders for accuracy and alignment with SPW strategy.
  • Implements SPW project controls including schedule tracking and cost monitoring.
  • Prepares and presents SPW progress reports and field logs for stakeholders.
  • Identifies and mitigates SPW risks through field analysis and engineering solutions.
  • Supports less experienced SPW team members in resolving issues.

Job Summary:

Facilitates Self-Perform Work (SPW) project activities, leveraging expertise in self-perform construction methods, equipment, and safety protocols. Collaborates with SPW crews and project teams by working closely with craft and project supervision to ensure SPW scopes are fully integrated with overall project plans, schedules, and quality requirements. Monitors self-perform work progress, analyzes labor and equipment utilization, identifies bottlenecks or quality issues specific to SPW scopes, and recommends targeted solutions to improve efficiency, safety, and outcomes. Shares specialized SPW knowledge with crews and champions continuous improvement by implementing leading practices and resolving moderately complex challenges unique to self-perform operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Reviews moderately complex technical aspects of self-perform work scopes, ensuring strict adherence to design specifications, SPW quality benchmarks, and field constructability.
  • Coordinates with SPW project managers and other workers to resolve moderately complex technical challenges unique to self-perform projects, ensuring uninterrupted crew productivity and project progress.
  • Reviews and provides feedback on SPW construction drawings, shop drawings, submittals, and change orders for accuracy and alignment with both project goals and SPW execution strategies.
  • Implements SPW project controls, including schedule tracking and cost monitoring, to support timely and cost-effective self-perform delivery.
  • Prepares and presents SPW progress reports, daily field logs, and technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identifies and mitigates risks specific to self-perform work, including SPW crew safety, equipment utilization, and material logistics, through field analysis and the application of engineering solutions.
  • Supports less experienced SPW project team members in resolving moderately complex self-perform project issues.
Education Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, a related field, or equivalent experience required.

Work Experience:

4 - 6 years of experience in construction engineering, project engineering, or a related field required.

Certifications and Licenses:

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-Hour Construction certification preferred. OSHA 30 program completion within 6 months of hire is required.
