Job summary

Brudis & Associates, Inc. in Columbia, Maryland seeks a Project Engineer in the Structures and Bridges Department to lead design and inspection for a range of bridge projects.

You will work under the Project Manager and mentor junior staff, ensuring QA/QC, schedules, and budgets are met while delivering innovative structural solutions. This senior role offers autonomy, opportunities for management, and collaboration with state, county, and local agencies.

Qualifications

• BSCE in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum three (3) years of design experience and two (2) years bridge inspection experience.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Maryland (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
• Completion of NHI 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges.
• Completion of NHI 130053 Bridge Inspection Refresher Training if NHI 130055 was completed more than 5 years prior.
• Strong understanding of AASHTO design guidelines.
• Proficiency using structural design software (LARS, Merlin-Dash, Descus, STAAD, etc.).
• Proficient using Microstation and associated design software with strong computer skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to provide guidance and share technical knowledge with entry-level engineers.

Responsibilities

• Provide structural design experience and mentor junior staff, helping grow the structural design team.
• Lead designer for project development including bridge, culvert noise barrier, and retaining walls design, deck repair/replacement, substructure and superstructure rehabilitation/repair, load ratings, parking structures, building rehab.
• Team leader for condition inspection of bridges, culverts, sign structures, high mast light structures, etc.
• Prepare design calculations, contract drawings and specifications, project cost estimates, and lead junior staff in these tasks.
• Represent BAI in project progress and review meetings and participate in field visits.
