Job summary

McKinstry in Seattle, WA is seeking a seasoned Project Controller to assume singular financial accountability for complex program engagements and to deliver senior-level financial stewardship across cost control, revenue recognition, and owner billing.

You will partner with Legal, Tax and F&A, present to executives, and mentor staff while driving robust financial processes and controls for large‑scale programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• CPA strongly preferred; MBA considered in lieu for exceptional track records.
• 15+ years of progressive experience leading financial controls on large, complex programs.
• Demonstrated experience as the primary financial owner on high-visibility engagements.
• Advanced proficiency in cost control, cost-to-complete and ASC 606 revenue recognition.

Responsibilities

• Own financial controls for a single program, including cost coding and budget management.
• Lead owner billing compliance across complex contracts and ensure timely invoicing.
• Manage subcontractor accounts payable and ensure lien waiver compliance.
• Coordinate with Legal, Tax, and F&A on billing structures and revenue recognition.
• Present updates to SVP/C-suite and drive risk mitigation.
• Collaborate with FP&A on rate substantiation and reporting.
• Review contracts for financial risk and advise project leadership.
• Oversee month-end WIP close and routine financial reporting.
• Mentor project finance staff to improve processes.
