Job summary

Capital Engineering Consultants in Sacramento seeks a hands-on Controller to lead accounting operations, project financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls. The role partners with firm leadership to improve processes and deliver reliable financial information to executives.

Responsibilities include monthly close, GAAP reporting, audit coordination, and overseeing AP/AR/payroll. Focus on WIP, revenue recognition, and project profitability with enterprise-grade dashboards

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or closely related field.
• Six+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Three years in Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager roles.
• Experience owning monthly close, general ledger, balance-sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Project-based accounting, job costing, WIP, billing, AR, and project profitability experience.
• Advanced Excel Skills.
• Ability to explain financial information to non-financial leaders.
• Work primarily onsite (Sacramento headquarters).

Responsibilities

• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Maintain general-ledger activity integrity and balance-sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare concise financial statements.
• Coordinate external audit and tax support.
• Oversee AP, AR, payroll accounting, and billing.
• Monitor WIP and revenue recognition for projects.
• Analyze project profitability and support billing/collections.
• Lead annual budgeting and forecasting activities.
• Develop and strengthen internal controls and documentation.
