Position Overview

HDR is seeking a Senior Project Architect to join our architecture practice. This role involves providing architectural expertise, mentoring, and delivering innovative designs for facilities across markets such as civic, community, higher education, and science. Responsibilities include designing, layout, detailing, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and managing projects from planning through construction administration. Additional duties may include scope preparation, client meetings, design reviews, schematic and design development sessions, conflict reviews, specifications writing, and construction administration. The ideal candidate is creative, self-motivated, and possesses strong communication and leadership skills, with a passion for excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams and perform layout and detailing on architectural projects.
  • Coordinate project work across all phases independently.
  • Conduct owner/client and internal meetings; participate in design reviews and code compliance inspections.
  • Lead work sessions at project sites with project managers and other disciplines.
  • Manage workload to ensure timely completion of documents.
  • Review documents for conflicts across disciplines.
  • Perform QA/QC and technical reviews.
  • Write and edit architectural specifications.
  • Coordinate with disciplines on addenda, RFIs, CPRs, and change orders.
  • Incorporate changes into project documents.
  • Lead projects in dual management roles as needed.
  • Provide construction contract administration services when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Architecture.
  • Experience with civic, community, education, and science projects.
  • Interest or experience in sustainable design/LEED is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign preferred.
  • Experience with Rhino and Grasshopper.
  • Local candidates preferred.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • Registered Architect.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Autodesk Revit and related tools.
  • Strong graphic presentation skills.
  • Experience in preparing architectural contract documents and specifications.
  • Good knowledge of codes and planning skills.
