CFS is seeking a Senior Project Accountant in Falls Church, VA to join our accounting team. This role focuses on development, homebuilding, and construction accounting with a hands-on, project-driven approach.

You will maintain project books, handle cost tracking, loan draws, and month-end close, while ensuring accurate capitalization and allocations. A BA/BS in accounting or finance and 6+ years of related experience are required, with strong Excel and ERP skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or related field.
• 6+ years of accounting experience in development, homebuilding, construction, or project accounting.
• Strong GL accounting and month-end close experience.
• Experience with job costing and project-based accounting.

Responsibilities

• Maintain project books and detailed accounting workpapers.
• Record and analyze construction and development transactions.
• Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close support.
• Track project costs, capitalization, inventory allocations, and cost of sales.
• Prepare and submit construction loan draw packages.
• Review lot settlements and HUD documentation.
• Manage bank reconciliations and cash activity.
• Assist with year-end reporting and tax workpapers.
• Review contracts for proper accounting treatment.
• Support financial reporting and project analysis.

• Experience preparing detailed workpapers and supporting documentation
• Ability to review contracts and determine appropriate accounting treatment
• Advanced Excel skills
• Experience working with accounting systems and ERP platforms

Preferred Experience

• Real estate development accounting
• Homebuilding accounting
• Construction project accounting
• Lot purchase agreements, lot settlements, and HUD documentation
• Sage Intacct and/or Sage 300 CRE
• Bill.com, Ramp, Concur, or similar platforms
• Public accounting experience with relevant industry exposure
