Job summary

The City of College Park, Maryland, Department of Youth, Family, and Senior Services seeks a full-time Social Coordinator to support the Seniors Program. This 40-hour-per-week role focuses on planning engaging social, recreational, cultural, educational, and wellness activities for adults aged 62 and older.

Independent work, strong communication, and collaboration with volunteers and partners are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with four years of college education.
  • Two years of experience as an event coordinator handling 40+ participants.
  • Must enjoy working with the elderly and motivate others.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to use Zoom and other computer-based tools.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate up to 12 senior day trips annually, including mobility accommodations.
  • Partner with the Seniors Program Manager to organize four special events each year.
  • Manage event registration, attendance, waitlists, and participant communications.
  • Collect and process payments for activities and events.
  • Purchase approved event supplies and materials.
  • Maintain accurate activity records and reports.
  • Promote programs and activities in collaboration with the Seniors Program Manager.
  • Foster positive, respectful relationships with senior participants.
  • Attend required meetings and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
