Job summary

The New York Times Company in New York, NY is seeking a Senior Program Manager to shape and lead the People Data & Insights team by turning complex HR questions into scalable, automated solutions. You will partner directly with HR leadership to create our roadmap while managing the end-to-end lifecycle from intake to delivery.

You will spend equal time translating business needs with stakeholders and partnering with engineers on technical execution.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in product management, program management, or an equivalent role delivering data or analytics products.
  • 5+ years of experience translating ambiguous business questions into concrete requirements.
  • Ability to read SQL queries, interrogate a data model, and know when an answer is wrong.

Responsibilities

  • Handle sensitive people data and own the roadmap for people data solutions from intake through launch, adoption.
  • Oversee request intake and prioritization, ensuring stakeholders understand what is built and why.
  • Translate business questions into solution requirements.
  • Partner with Analytics Engineer and Solutions Architect on scoping, sequencing and delivery.
  • Build the education layer into the solution itself.
  • Collaborate on data governance, contribute to the data dictionary, define metrics.
  • Manage stakeholders across HR, Technology, Legal and the business, including senior leaders.

About the Role, Mission or Department Overview

We are looking for a Senior Program Manager to shape and lead our People Data & Insights team by turning complex HR questions into scalable, automated solutions. In this high-visibility role, you will partner directly with HR leadership to create our roadmap while managing the end-to-end lifecycle from intake to delivery. You will spend equal time translating business needs with stakeholders and partnering with engineers on technical execution. Beyond building tools, you will own the critical final mile by driving adoption and ensuring leaders understand and trust the insights we deliver. You will report to our Senior Director, People Data & Insights.

Responsibilities:

  • You will handle sensitive people data and own the roadmap for people data solutions, from intake through launch, and adoption
  • You will oversee request intake and the prioritization process ensuring requesters understand what is being built, what is not, and why
  • You will translate business questions into solution requirements
  • You will partner daily with the Analytics Engineer and Solutions Architect on scoping, sequencing, and delivery
  • You will build the education layer into the solution itself.
  • You will partner on data governance, contribute to the data dictionary, and hold the line on metric definitions
  • You will manage stakeholders across HR, Technology, Legal, and the business, including senior leaders.
  • You will demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in product management, program management, or an equivalent role delivering data or analytics products
  • 5+ years of experience translating ambiguous business questions into concrete requirements.
  • You can read SQL queries, interrogate a data model, and know when an answer is wrong

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience with HR or people data, and familiarity with systems such as Workday, Greenhouse, or similar
  • 3+ years of experience with BI and analytics tooling such as Hex, Tableau, or Looker

Additional Compensation and Benefits:

For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock. Benefits may include medical, dental and vision benefits, Flexible Spending Accounts (F.S.A.s), a company-matching 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase plan, paid vacation, paid sick days, paid parental leave, tuition reimbursement and professional development programs.

For roles outside of the U.S., information on benefits will be provided during the interview process.

The annual base pay range for this role is between:

$155,000 - $170,000 USD
