Tisch College of Civic Life is a national leader in civic education, whose teaching, research and community partnerships are setting the standard for higher education’s role in civic engagement. What You'll Do

At Tisch College, every Tufts student – whatever their field of study, school or degree program – has a pathway to civic engagement. The Tisch College student programs team oversees a robust portfolio of curricular and co‑curricular opportunities for students across the university to develop and enhance civic learning.

In collaboration with staff/faculty at Tisch College and the host campuses, and in alignment with the Tisch College North Star, support development of program strategy, goals and content. Under the supervision of the Program Manager for the Health Sciences, the Senior Program Administrator for Civic Learning in Health Sciences oversees multiple programs and initiatives related to civic engagement and critical service learning in a health‑related context. The Senior Program Administrator plays an integral role in supporting our work to meet students where they are and engaging them throughout their time at Tufts. The Senior Program Administrator works with staff, faculty, students and/or community partners at their host campus to identify civic engagement opportunities and design and implement associated events and activities.

A principal function of the Senior Program Administrator will be to lead the co‑creation and eventual implementation of an incubator for civic learning, leadership and engagement across the health sciences. The Senior Program Administrator will also spend a portion of their time supporting civic engagement programming at the School of Dental Medicine and the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy.

Occasional evening and weekend work might be required during peak program times. This is a hybrid position where you are expected to be in the office 3 days per week. However, during the probationary period the position will 100% in‑person in order to establish relationships necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the role.

Civic Learning Incubator
  • Identify and build relationship with faculty, staff and students active in civic learning and engagement across the Health Sciences.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with principal community partners.
  • Conduct needs assessment to inform co‑creation of civic learning initiatives on the health science campus.
  • Convene a team of staff, faculty and students to co‑create a vision for an incubator for civic learning, leadership and engagement across the health sciences.
  • Develop a plan to implement the civic learning incubator vision, including structure, outcomes, timeline/stages and potential funding sources for continued expansion.
  • Serve as principal convener and administrator of the civic learning incubator and the co‑creation team.
  • Organize and/or support events and volunteer opportunities that bring together students across the health science programs, including, but not limited to guest speakers, trainings on various health justice or civic learning skills, community service initiatives, etc.
  • Serve as a liaison between Tisch College and health sciences partners, particularly the School of Dental Medicine and the Friedman School.
  • Develop and implement a communication strategy to promote opportunities and share news highlighting events and initiatives across the health sciences.
Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) and Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy
  • Serve as advisor and resource for students offering one‑on‑one and group mentorship to support their civic learning in relationship to TUSDM & the Friedman School.
  • Create and facilitate curricular materials associated with civic learning efforts. These may include development of training modules, facilitation of reflection sessions, creation reflection assignment guidelines, review of student reflections and assisting faculty with all of the above.
  • Develop and implement orientation, workshops, visits to program partner organizations off‑campus, lectures, closing, presentations and other events for student programs.
  • Support civic pathways within the TUSDM and Friedman service/experiential learning initiatives by advising students, speaking with partner organizations and creating civic learning curricular tools such as training materials, reflection prompts and program evaluation
  • With the Tisch College Assoc. Director of Research & Development implement and support program evaluation and assessment, suggesting revisions based on findings.
  • Facilitate Tisch College program admission processes at TUSDM and the Friedman School (eg., Tisch Summer Fellows and Honos Civicus Society), information sessions, application review, interview and selection.
Tisch College of Civic Life
  • Attend Tisch Student Programs Team meetings, Tisch all‑staff meetings and other regular programming, including events sponsored by the Tisch College Inclusive Excellence Committee.
  • Participate in relevant committees, workshops, and trainings at Tisch and across Tufts to develop professional competencies and explore content of interest.
  • Support the development and monitoring of budgets including: supporting the program manager in preparing reports and projections; procurement and dissemination of supplies associated with programming; collaboration with Tisch College advancement to support donor stewardship.

Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 3-5 yrs. professional experience.
  • Understanding of civic learning, leadership and engagement.
  • Strong Planning and program administration skills.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in community engagement and/or working in a student‑centered role.
  • Experience in the field of public health or any of the health fields represented at the Boston Health Science campus a plus.
Pay Range

Minimum $74,000.00, Midpoint $92,500.00, Maximum $111,000.00

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
