Job summary

Formic is seeking a Product Support Engineer to serve as the escalation point for Field Service and the internal product expert for one to two system types. You will diagnose issues, develop troubleshooting paths, and drive remediation to keep the field moving.

You will review fleet-wide failures for repeat problems and work with Product Engineering on permanent fixes. This is an in-office role in Oakland, CA or Bolingbrook, IL with close collaboration to Engineering and Design teams.

Qualifications

7+ years of experience with industrial automation, robotics, or manufacturing equipment.
Strong troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, controls, and automation systems.
Experience with PLCs, industrial robots, safety equipment, vision, networking, or other product technologies.
Able to reproduce field failures and test solutions, with data-driven decision making.
Excellent written and verbal communication; able to work across teams.

Responsibilities

Own technical escalations for assigned system types and guide field engineers to resolution.
Provide complex troubleshooting and root cause analysis support to FSEs.
Review logs, configurations, and failure history to determine next steps.
Reproduce field failures on equipment in the office and validate fixes.
Test PLC, robot, software, electrical, and configuration changes to prove hypotheses.
Develop clear troubleshooting plans for field teams and share knowledge base improvements.
Identify recurring issues and coordinate with Product Engineering for permanent fixes.
Collaborate with Engineering and Design to answer technical questions and remove blockers.
Travel occasionally as required by projects or customer needs.
