The Wikimedia Foundation seeks an innovative lead product manager to enhance the Wikipedia reading experience for a new generation of users. Wikipedia is among the most visited media properties globally, with over 1 billion monthly visits across more than 300 languages. Most users—over 99%—are logged-out visitors on our web platforms. The Reader Growth team aims to develop engaging features that cater to modern content consumption preferences, including intuitive browsing, multimedia engagement, and contextual knowledge framing, across languages and geographies. As a product manager, you will lead a cross-functional team to innovate, test, and scale new features impacting millions worldwide.

This role reports to the Group Product Manager, Readers. Candidates must be available for meetings between 15:00 UTC and 18:00 UTC and be open to traveling up to four times per year.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Developing engaging Wikipedia reading experiences on desktop and mobile.
  2. Leading a team of engineers, designers, community specialists, and data analysts to build and test features.
  3. Designing scalable experiments and deploying features based on data and user feedback.
  4. Applying measurement practices like A/B testing and user research within privacy constraints.
  5. Managing project planning artifacts such as roadmaps, specs, and release plans.
  6. Collaborating with Communications, Marketing, and Legal teams on high-profile projects.
  7. Engaging with volunteer communities for feedback and collaborative planning.
  8. Staying informed about developments in knowledge seeking, AI, and industry best practices.
  9. Persevering through setbacks and communicating pivots when necessary.
  10. Understanding the diversity of our global user base and its influence on our work.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of professional experience, with 5+ years in product management, preferably in an agile environment.
  • Deep understanding of the knowledge landscape, learning preferences, and discovery trends.
  • Proven success in building and iterating high-scale consumer products on web platforms.
  • Expertise in controlled experimentation for product decisions.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging with management, teams, and communities.
  • Ability to manage diverse responsibilities in a dynamic environment.

Preferred qualities:

  • Alignment with Wikimedia’s mission and values.
  • Resilience, patience, curiosity, and openness to feedback.
  • Experience with AI, multilingual products, large communities, and remote teams.
  • Technical skills in data and analytics; multilingual abilities; familiarity with Wikimedia projects and MediaWiki.
