Job summary

Viam in New York City is seeking a Senior Product Manager to own a core area of the platform. You’ll set the roadmap, define how product and engineering collaborate, and partner with senior leadership on strategy: removing frictions for developers and guiding where hardware-ready software evolves.

You have a software engineering background and at least 8 years in product management. This hybrid role requires 3 days in the NYC office and offers a chance to shape SDKs, APIs, and developer

Qualifications

• Must have experience as a software engineer and shipping production software.
• Experience building developer-facing APIs/SDKs or platforms where engineers are the primary users.
• Track record of taking products from ambiguity to production with migrations, deprecations, and breaking changes.
• Technical credibility with engineers; able to run the SDK and discuss code in reviews.
• Ability to conduct real market research and form strategy from user insights in their environment.
• Comfort defining success metrics and using data to drive what to build next.
• Ability to move quickly with incomplete information and adapt directions.
• Experience working with senior leadership to set direction and disagree constructively.
• Hands-on interest in hardware, IoT, embedded systems or similar physical systems.

Responsibilities

• Own the roadmap for your area of the platform, from problem definition through launch and adoption, and decide what ships, what waits, and what gets deprecated.
• Collaborate on product strategy: what keeps developers from adopting Viam, and which experiences become bottlenecks or blockers.
• Develop a view on where physical AI and robotics are heading, and what that means for how software engineers get involved.
• Work with engineering leads on platform architecture decisions, including what belongs in the core, registry, or an SDK.
• Take new capabilities from 0 to 1 and shepherd them through real customer deployments.
• Own the developer experience for your area, including SDK ergonomics, API surface, docs, and onboarding.
• Define success metrics and use that data to decide what to build next.
• Bring customer and Forward Deployed engineer learnings back into the roadmap and shape the product practice.
