Job description

Join to apply for the Senior Product Manager role at DigitalOcean.

We are seeking a Principal Product Manager to lead our Kubernetes product initiatives and drive innovation across our product portfolio. This role is ideal for a highly strategic, technically proficient leader who can drive product vision and execution at scale. You’ll work with a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, marketers, and business leaders to deliver innovative, customer-centric solutions that empower developers and businesses to succeed.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Product Manager for Kubernetes Services at DigitalOcean, you will be responsible for the strategy, roadmap, and execution of our Kubernetes offerings. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Defining and owning the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for DigitalOcean Kubernetes and Container Registry Services, aligning with overall company and product goals, with a particular focus on how Kubernetes enables users to effectively scale and manage their applications on DigitalOcean.
  • Conducting market research and customer analysis to identify opportunities and unmet needs in the Kubernetes and container orchestration space, including understanding user requirements for cluster configuration, networking within Kubernetes, storage provisioning, and integration with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Driving support for accelerated computing workloads (GPU-enabled nodes) and exploring the use of Generative AI to enhance Day 2 operations, such as automated troubleshooting, intelligent alerting, and proactive cluster optimization.
  • Gathering and prioritizing product requirements from internal stakeholders and external customers, translating them into actionable specifications for new Kubernetes features and enhancements, such as node pool management, autoscaling capabilities, and simplified cluster upgrades.
  • Collaborating closely with engineering, design, and other cross-functional teams to define, build, and launch new features and improvements to the Kubernetes service, ensuring robustness, security, and performance. This includes defining the user experience for deploying, managing, and monitoring Kubernetes clusters on DigitalOcean.
  • Defining and analyzing key metrics to measure the success of the Kubernetes product and identify areas for optimization, such as cluster adoption rates, resource utilization within clusters, and user satisfaction with the Kubernetes experience.
  • Working with marketing and sales teams to develop go-to-market strategies and ensure successful product launches, highlighting the benefits of running Kubernetes on DigitalOcean, such as its integration with other services and ease of management.
  • Contributing to relevant content and resources such as tutorials and documentation to help users effectively adopt and utilize DigitalOcean Kubernetes, providing guidance on deploying applications, configuring networking, and managing storage within a Kubernetes environment.
  • Monitoring the competitive landscape and staying up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in Kubernetes and cloud-native computing, including advancements in CNCF projects and best practices for container orchestration.
  • Engaging with the DigitalOcean community to gather feedback and understand user pain points related to Kubernetes, actively participating in forums and other channels to address their needs and inform the product roadmap.
What We’ll Expect From You

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture, concepts, and best practices, including experience with cluster setup, networking, storage, and application deployment strategies.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and services, and a strong understanding of how Kubernetes integrates with core cloud infrastructure components.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to define and drive product strategy and execution for a technically complex product.
  • Technical background or strong technical aptitude, with the ability to understand and discuss technical details with engineering teams.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
  • Experience with other container technologies such as Docker.
  • Active participation in the Kubernetes community, contributing to open-source projects or engaging in community forums is a plus.
  • Familiarity with DigitalOcean's product offerings is a plus.
