Job summary

MEDELA, LLC – McHenry, IL is seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer to lead the design and development of embedded electronics for next-generation medical devices. You will own hardware design from concept to production, collaborating across hardware, software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to ensure robust, compliant hardware platforms.

The role emphasizes hands-on circuit design, PCB layout, and verification, with mentorship of junior engineers in a hybrid work setting three days

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics/Embedded Systems or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing embedded electronic hardware.
  • Strong analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit design experience.
  • Experience designing microcontroller-based systems and PCB layouts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and development of embedded electronic systems for medical devices.
  • Develop hardware architectures, schematics, and PCB layouts.
  • Drive projects from concept through production release.
  • Design analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits.
  • Perform circuit analysis, simulations, and root-cause investigations.
  • Define hardware requirements aligned with system architecture.
  • Support verification, validation testing, and design improvements.
  • Create technical documentation including design specs and risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with software, mechanical, manufacturing, and quality teams.
  • Support design transfer to manufacturing and DFx initiatives.
  • Mentor and provide SME guidance for hardware development.

Senior Product Development Engineer – Electronics Hardware

MEDELA, LLC – McHenry, IL (Hybrid Role; 3 days on-site, within commuting distance)

Starting Salary: $120,000 with bonus potential

Overview

Design the Electronics Behind Life-Changing Medical Devices. Lead design and development of embedded electronic systems for next-generation medical devices, from concept through commercialization.

What You'll Do
  • Lead design and development of embedded electronic systems for medical devices.
  • Develop hardware architectures, schematics, and PCB layouts.
  • Drive projects from concept, prototyping, and verification through production release.
  • Design analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits.
  • Perform circuit analysis, simulations, troubleshooting, and root‑cause investigations.
  • Define and manage hardware requirements aligned with overall system architecture.
  • Support verification and validation testing and incorporate findings into design improvements.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, risk assessments, and engineering records.
  • Collaborate closely with software, mechanical, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams.
  • Support design transfer to manufacturing, BOM optimization, and design‑for‑manufacturability initiatives.
  • Serve as a technical mentor and subject‑matter expert for hardware development.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Embedded Systems, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing embedded electronic hardware products.
  • Strong expertise in analog, digital, and mixed‑signal circuit design.
  • Experience designing microcontroller‑based systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with PCB design and schematic capture tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience taking products from concept through production.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Altium Designer and Altium 365.
  • Experience in medical devices or other regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of IEC 60601, EMC/EMI requirements, FCC, RED, or similar regulatory standards.
  • Familiarity with embedded firmware development in C/C++.
  • Experience with design‑for‑manufacturability (DFM), design‑for‑assembly (DFA), and production industrialization.
