Job summary

Fort Wayne Metals is seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer to lead the design, development and validation of wire and cable products and related assemblies. You will mentor Product Development Technicians and coordinate with Quality, Process Engineering, and Sales teams to meet customer requirements.

The role emphasizes innovation, DOE, modeling, and transfer of new products to production, with a focus on compliance and technical excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical field preferred.
• MBA, Master’s degree or advanced technical training in engineering preferred.
• 5–10 years of strong background in machining, forming, stamping, welding; experience in miniature cable manufacturing or wire processing and in discrete part engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

• Innovate and validate new products and processes per ISO-13485 and Fort Wayne Metals Quality Systems.
• Collaborate with internal wire and cable inputs to deliver innovative customer solutions.
• Develop product development protocols including testing needs and functional characterization.
• Engage with customers to determine needs, specs, options, and support sales in quotes.
• Prepare FAIR/PPAP documents and related control plans and PFMEA/PD diagrams.
• Perform capability analysis and recommend improvements to Process Engineering.
• Conceptualize ideas via computer modeling and prototypes; execute DOE.
• Develop engineering tools for faster product development and apply statistics to NPD.
• Document Application Files and coordinate tooling/fixtures development.
• Transfer new products to production with training and work instructions.
