Job summary

Watlow is seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer at the Advanced Technology Center in St. Louis, MO. You will design and support heaters, sensors, cables, and controls for regulated markets such as Nuclear, Aerospace and Defense.

You will lead projects from proposal to delivery, collaborate with suppliers and internal/external customers, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards. Strong CAD and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; 5+ years in regulated markets or 3+ with a Master’s.
• Experience in regulated market products and adherence to standards.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, electrical and mechanical theory.
• Detail-oriented, with sound problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
• Ability to read technical specs and apply requirements.
• Excellent teamwork and presentation skills.
• Proactive, with ability to manage multiple projects.

Overview Of Role

As a Senior Product Development Engineer at our Advanced Technology Center in St. Louis, MO, you will perform engineering, design and support activities for our products that serve our Regulated Markets business, including Nuclear, Aerospace and Defense heaters, sensors, cables and controls. If you are detailed oriented, enjoy working with a wide range of partners (customers, other Watlow team members, vendors) and have an interest in the applications surrounding Nuclear power generation, Aerospace and Defense, this may be the job you have been looking for!

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

The Senior Product Development Engineer will be responsible for reviewing customer specifications, designing/developing products to meet customer needs, supporting products through fabrication, continuously improving both the product design and fabrication processes (through product design/engineering related activities) and ensuring compliance with the various Codes and Standards that govern these regulated markets. The individual will be part of a cohesive team, while leading projects from the initial proposal stage through the delivery to the customer, with frequent interaction with suppliers, internal customers and external customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience; or 3 years of experience with a Master’s degree.
• Experience working with products in a regulated market, with active participation in ensuring requirements to specifications and standards are upheld
• Demonstrated understanding of basic Thermodynamics, Electrical, and Mechanical theories.
• Demonstrated process oriented mindset, with attention to detail within his/her work product
• Demonstrated understanding of troubleshooting techniques, root cause analysis, and problem solving.
• Demonstrated ability to read and analyze technical specifications, and apply the requirements therein to his/her work product and overall processes
• Perform mental tasks such as critical decision making, organizing many topics, prioritizing work to align with business objectives and exercising good judgement.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and technical presentation skills
• Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with a solid modelling CAD system
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment.
• Flexibility to handle multiple projects of varying size and scope.
• Proactive team player with a desire to build effective working relationships.
• Customer facing communication and presentation skills.

Additional Success Factors

• Knowledge and demonstrated experience with industrial electric heating
• Experience in design/engineering using ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel, NQA-1 or similar codes/standards OR equivalent experience (5-8 years) in the design/development of products using ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes, NQA-1 or similar codes/standards.
• Experience or knowledge of AS9100
• Demonstrated experience with Solidworks.
