Job summary

Watlow is seeking a Product Design Engineer I to create and maintain 3D models and 2D drawings for thermal products, using SolidWorks and standard templates. You will work under guidance to build core CAD and drafting skills while delivering safe, manufacturable designs.

The role involves collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams, performing ASME calculations, and supporting design reviews to ensure compliance and readiness for production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
• Basic Excel and general computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Convert customer requirements into 3D SolidWorks models and 2D drawings using standard templates and Watlow standards.
• Prepare ASME engineering calculations in support of individual designs.
• Create and maintain part numbers and bills of materials in the ERP system.
• Coordinate with product engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality, and operations to ensure manufacturability and compliance.
• Assist in troubleshooting product design issues in manufacturing.

Position Summary

The Product Design Engineer I creates and maintains 3D models and 2D drawings for Watlow products, including flanged heaters, pressure vessels, duct heaters, and screw plug heaters. This role focuses on executing design work within standard platforms, using established options while working under guidance, building core skills in CAD, GD&T, Watlow drafting standards, and business processes while supporting safe, compliant, and manufacturable designs.

Key Responsibilities

• Convert customer requirements into 3D SolidWorks models and 2D drawings using standard templates and following Watlow standards.
• Prepare ASME engineering calculations in support of individual designs.
• Create and maintain part numbers and bills of materials in company ERP system.
• Coordinate with product engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality, and operations to produce agency compliant and manufacturable designs.
• Assist in troubleshooting product design related issues in manufacturing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related
• Proficiency with 3D CAD (preferred: SolidWorks)
• Basic Excel and general computer skills

Training & Development

• Primarily on-the-job training
• Will work closely under the guidance and mentorship of more senior team members

Work Environment

• Office and CAD workstation environment with frequent collaboration via Teams/Outlook across sites within same time zone.
• Occasional time on the shop floor to review builds, understand manufacturability, and close the loop on design issues.
