Founded in 2021 and backed by Define Ventures, SemperVirens, 7Wire Ventures, and The Cigna Group Ventures, the company partners with employers, health plans, and pharmacy benefit managers to deliver comprehensive, cost-effective medical care. Members receive access to specialized clinicians, at-home lab testing, prescription medications, and lifestyle support.### The roleThis is a senior individual contributor position leading design across 9amHealth's member app, the primary surface through which members manage their care. The scope covers labs, medications, virtual visits, education, nutrition, and tracking. The member app connects directly to an in-house electronic medical record system (EMR), so member actions trigger Care Team workflows and clinical data shapes what members see. You would report to the Head of Design and work day-to-day with a product manager, front-end and back-end engineers, and QA. You would also collaborate with other product designers working across member and Care Team experiences. The product and engineering team is distributed across San Diego, California, and Vienna, Austria; this role works Eastern Time hours to support collaboration with both locations.### What you would do* Take priority problems from discovery through interaction and visual design, implementation, and iteration, staying involved through delivery and taking responsibility for the quality of shipped work.* Design onboarding, care tasks, habit-building features, and re-engagement flows that help members understand their next steps and act on them.* Partner with your squad to define success metrics, instrument key interactions, and assess activation, funnel conversion, task completion, retention, and sustained engagement.* Build code-based prototypes and use AI-assisted tools (such as Cursor or Claude) when a Figma prototype is not sufficient to test behavior or explore ideas with engineers.* Run research to understand member needs, test assumptions, and identify where the experience helps or creates friction.* Collaborate with designers and engineers to evolve accessible components and interaction patterns within the design system.* Work with clinicians, coaches, and care coordinators to understand how member-facing decisions affect Care Team workflows and reduce avoidable work.* Balance member needs, clinical considerations, operational capacity, and business goals, and document decisions so the team can revisit assumptions and learn from results.### What they are looking for* Experience leading design for a consumer product or substantial product area, from an ambiguous problem through to a shipped outcome, with work that shows attention to interaction, visual hierarchy, content, and finishing detail.* A clear point of view: you bring ideas, challenge assumptions, explain your choices, and can change direction when evidence warrants it.* Comfort with product metrics: you can explain what changed after launch, how you measured it, and what you did next, combining quantitative data with research to understand why something is or is not working.* Thoughtful approach to behavior-change design, helping people build habits and return after a lapse without relying on guilt, pressure, or hollow reward mechanics.* Research skills: choosing an appropriate method, asking useful questions, and turning findings into product or priority changes.* Fluency with modern prototyping tools, including knowing when to go beyond Figma and how to use AI-assisted tools critically and refine their output.* Practical understanding of accessibility, designing for people with different abilities, levels of health literacy, and confidence with technology.* Initiative and clear communication: making progress with incomplete information and bringing the team along through direct writing and conversation.### Working arrangementsThis role is fully remote. The team has physical sites in San Diego, California, and Vienna, Austria. The role works Eastern Time hours to support collaboration across both locations.### Pay and benefits9amHealth offers a comprehensive benefits package for full-time W2 employees, including health, dental, and vision insurance, flexible PTO, and work-from-home options. A professional development budget and support for continuing education are also provided.
