We’re looking for a Senior Product Design Engineer to join an established manufacturing organization and take a technical leadership role in the design, development, and commercialization of physical products.
This is a hands on engineering role for someone who enjoys taking products from concept through production while working closely with manufacturing, suppliers, quality, sourcing, and product teams.
What You'll Do
- Lead the design and development of new products and product enhancements from concept through production.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, and tolerance analyses.
- Lead engineering design reviews and make technical decisions throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Apply DFM, DFA, DFMEA, tolerance stack-up, and value engineering principles.
- Develop and evaluate prototypes, testing plans, and product validation activities.
- Work directly with domestic and international suppliers on tooling, prototypes, production qualification, and manufacturing issues.
- Support pilot builds and first-article inspections and help resolve design/manufacturing challenges.
- Manage engineering changes and documentation through PLM/ECO/ECR processes.
- Lead cross-functional projects involving engineering, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, product management, and supply chain.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers.
- Present technical recommendations and project updates to leadership.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of mechanical product design and development experience.
- Strong, hands-on experience with SolidWorks, Arena, or similar 3D CAD software.
- Experience taking physical products from design through prototype and production.
- Experience with DFM/DFA, DFMEA, PPAP, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as:
- Stamping
- Machining
- Elastomers
- Mechanical assembly
- Experience working directly with suppliers and manufacturing partners.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to lead cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- Ability to manage multiple product development projects and make sound technical decisions.
Preferred Experience
Experience in one or more of the following would be a plus:
- Plumbing or building products
- Consumer products
- Manufacturing
- Automotive or other mechanical products
- FEA or rapid prototyping
- PLM/ERP systems
- Lean/Six Sigma
