Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Process Engineer for a remote-based role anchored to the Oak Ridge, TN office. You will analyze, develop, and improve industrial and chemical process systems for nuclear and commercial projects, collaborating with production teams, quality control, and other engineers to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations.

You will apply extensive engineering knowledge to design equipment and systems, size piping and vessels, run calculations, and mentor juniors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in chemical, mechanical, industrial or related engineering field.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in nuclear industry preferred.
• PE preferred; Master's degree preferred.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Mastered the in-depth knowledge and experience required in process systems design.
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals and ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines.
• Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks.
• Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, develop, and improve industrial processes for nuclear and commercial projects.
• Collaborate with production teams, quality control, and other engineers to ensure processes run efficiently and meet safety and regulatory standards.
• Design products such as chemical engineering systems including reaction vessels, filtration systems, ion-exchange skids, piping and vessel systems.
• Select commercially available equipment (pumps, valves, piping, fittings, filtration systems).
• Perform engineering calculations to document compliance with project and code requirements (mass and energy balances, pressure profiles, sizing).
• Run experiments and tests to aid design documents and plant modifications.
• Mentor junior colleagues and conduct quality reviews of design work.
• Adhere to design criteria, specifications, procedures and codes; ensure timely completion and integration across disciplines.
