Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Process Engineer for a remote role, based out of Oak Ridge, TN. The position focuses on analyzing, developing, and improving industrial processes across nuclear and commercial projects.

You will design mechanical systems, collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, mentor junior engineers, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and safety standards. U.S. citizenship and CFR 810 eligibility are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical, mechanical, industrial or related engineering field.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in nuclear industry preferred.
• PE preferred; Master’s degree preferred.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Mastered the in-depth knowledge and experience required in process systems design.
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals and ability to manage tasks and deadlines.
• Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks.
• Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810.e.
• Must be a U.S. citizen to be considered.

Responsibilities

• This role analyzes, develops, and improves industrial processes.
• This role will support the design and analysis of mechanical components and system designs for nuclear and commercial projects.
• Collaborate with production teams, quality control, and other engineers to ensure efficient processes meeting safety standards.
• Design products such as chemical engineering systems including reaction vessels, filtration, and piping.
• Select commercially available equipment (pumps, valves, fittings, filtration).
• Perform engineering calculations to document code compliance (mass/energy balances, sizing).
• Run experiments/tests to support design documents and plant modifications.
• Ensure design criteria, specs, practices, and codes are used in design media.
• Work in multi-discipline teams and mentor junior colleagues when needed.
• Review design media for accuracy per policies and client expectations.
• Maintain schedules and take corrective actions to avoid delays.
• Propose new equipment and techniques to improve performance and reduce costs.
• Operate with independence and take on assigned duties.
