Job summary

Sterling St James Inc. seeks a Senior Process Engineer to join an established engineered-equipment manufacturer. This hands-on role involves direct customer interaction, cross-functional collaboration, and leadership across projects to develop safe, reliable equipment solutions.

You will translate customer requirements into technical specifications, review P&IDs, and guide equipment design and testing from concept through startup. Excellent communication and mentorship are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Process or Mechanical Engineering.
• Senior-level experience in process engineering or related technical roles.
• Strong thermodynamics, fluid flow, heat transfer, and process controls knowledge.
• Hands-on experience with engineered industrial equipment under pressure and temperature conditions.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Director of Engineering to understand products, technologies, equipment and customer applications.
• Consult with customers to identify manufacturing processes, requirements and performance expectations.
• Translate requirements into practical, safe, and reliable equipment solutions.
• Develop technical specifications and system design criteria for custom equipment.
• Perform engineering calculations for pressure, temperature, flow, heat transfer and process performance.
• Review P&IDs, instrumentation specs, and control-system strategies.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical and controls engineers through design and execution.
• Lead design reviews, risk assessments, testing, commissioning and startup activities.
• Provide technical support to customers, manufacturing, field service and suppliers.
• Ensure designs meet performance, safety, quality and regulatory requirements.
• Improve engineering standards and documentation, and mentor team members.
